learn about true tech threats
So many sources for news – television, radio, computers, pop-up ads, and more.

They are all trying to get your attention. All sounding more dire than the last ‘outbreak.’

Is it any wonder every hack attempt or computer scam or new virus outbreak sounds as if it will be the end of our digital world?

There is an easy way to cut through the hype and the threats of digital Armageddon. In this month’s column, Bryant Harrison shares his go-to source for finding complete, accurate information about technology!

We all have people in our lives who possess the strengths and skills we don’t. Not knowing tech is ok.  I have my trusted handyman! He has more tools and tricks than I’ll ever learn. Trust me, I call him frequently when one of my “home improvement projects” goes a little off-kilter.

get the truth about tech threats
My go-to site is Bleeping Computerhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/. It is a super source.  Admittedly, you need a bit of tech knowledge to follow most articles, but they give accurate info on tech news, tech threats, and LOTS of other stuff.  Bleeping Computer also offers how-to articles, malware removal guides, free-quality software and similar content. We use this website frequently as a repository of quality, technical information at QuickFix.

If Bleeping Computer is just too geeky for you, don’t hesitate to call on your local, trusted tech and ask them your question. Hey, I can’t build a house, but I know my tech!  No reason to be ashamed of this. We all have our strengths and skills in this world.  Your trusted tech will care about you on a personal level and will give you good advice.

If you don’t have a trusted tech advisor, look at online reviews to find one. Search for “Computer Repair” on Google and on Yelp.  Both places allow for reputable reviews of businesses.  This helps you get a “feel” for the culture of the company.

  • Read what other people are saying about the company’s attitude and performance.
  • Look for a tech company that views their clients as valued tech partners and sees themselves more as consultants.

Good tech guys realize that they don’t know everything about the homes or businesses that they service.  They know that their main role is to fill in the tech gaps so that the client can make an informed decision.

Yes, the tech threats are very real. Before you click that new site, be sure to do some research. Bookmark Bleeping Computer and your trusted tech advisor’s phone number and you will find yourself in the right mindset to interpret what’s out there.

People want someone to help their home or business to be efficient and to grow. They want someone who feels like a collaborator and family member… not an equation.

We have been so successful because in all of our businesses, we hire like-minded people who care for others. It must be about taking care of customers in the same way that you would take care of your family.
